Getting Contaminated With Covid-19 Modified My Life Forever
We now have all heard about connectedness and oneness, and the way Covid is (hopefully) bringing us a step closer to these experiences, seeing how we are all in this together. But then once more, are we really all in this together? Personally, I'm not so sure about that looking at the controversies in government policies (especially in international locations where elections are taking place in the course of the pandemic), the push-backs from the general public in opposition to restrictions (not a whole lot of us are willingness to sacrifice our "valuable" routines for the greater good), and more lately - the distribution of vaccines (those who pay more get more).
So what are we lacking? When and the way are we finally going to be taught the lesson? And what is that lesson?
Actually, Covid offers us an obvious clue each concerning the What we have to be taught and the How. What Covid patients expertise and in some cases die from is lack of air. And air is the very thing that connects us all. To use one of Jessica Dibb's observations, we are able to create an in-group and an out-group (i.e. manifest separation) based on race, profession, gender, age, social characteristics, looks, etc. However there may be one frequent denominator which, when applied, leads us automatically to oneness - the breath. Thus, it doesn't matter what beliefs, traumas and preferences we have, we all belong to the group of breathers. And the breath (which, as I have come to experience, is the embodiment of Spirit), is what connects us all and offers us the physical, somatic experience of oneness. BUT only if we take note of it!
Shock, shock - Covid is bringing our consideration and awareness exactly to the breath. As such, Covid is asking us to start living a more spiritually oriented life: a life where we are indeed more connected, a life lived in the NOW. Importantly, by bringing our focus to the breathing, Covid will not be only showing us the lesson we have to be taught, i.e. the lesson of oneness; it is also showing us how we will study said lesion, and that's just by staying targeted on the breath and working towards aware breathing.
Without a doubt, aware breathing is what may give us a direct spiritual experience (albeit in physical our bodies). I personally learnt that by being forced (after getting infected with Covid) to concentrate to the breath. Not that I hadn't dabbled in various yoga and meditation practices before. However this time the shift in awareness was so profound! Armed with a considerably survival-pushed motivation in the beginning of the illness, I dove deep into varied breathing techniques, and the more intimately I obtained to know aware breathing, the more my experience of separation was dissolving. I used to be feeling so much lighter, happier and, in fact, more connected. I used to be getting the lesson! More importantly, I used to be healing a disease not brought on by Covid but merely highlighted by it.
Sadly, I think the whole planet is sick with that same disease - the disease of Separation. Therefore, we've got a world pandemic. This pandemic has managed to highlight in a superb way the pervasiveness of the pathology all of us suffer from, the breathlessness and lack of connectedness all through the globe. Covid is just the red light right here signaling we need to fix the engine. And it's not going away in a hurry, no less than not until all of us grow to be acutely aware of the real problem and start taking the suitable motion towards resolving it. The real problem, indeed, is a profound spiritual disconnect. We, as a planet, have reached the hallmark of Separation. Hence, Covid is screaming at us: "Use the breath, people, and connect!"
On the face of it, I wholeheartedly encourage you to seek out some conscious breathing practices and start incorporating them in your life (if you have not already). Talking about oneness does not help you really feel it. Conscious breathing, however, takes us straight to the physical experience of oneness, to the embodiment of spirituality. Strive it for yourself and I'm positive you will by no means look back. It only takes a few aware breaths to alter your point of view, and a different perspective opens doors to new, exciting and limitless possibilities.
